The ‘How Tos’ of ‘How Tos’

I’m always reading ‘How To’ books. I read all types of books and magazines, but the “How To’ ones are like mini-education classes or even big education classes depending on the subject and content.

I have written ‘How To’ articles and planning an instructional book down the road. I always write them with the notion that more than one person is reading them. I hope!

The point is that all of these types of books/articles — no matter the author — are written with a decent size audience in mind. The reader has to take away from the reading what will apply to her and use it.

Not everything in the book will or should be used by everyone. There is no one size fits all. This is why I get so frustrated by the naysayers who will say a program doesn’t work or so and so’s book is a scam.

Most times, I think these naysayers haven’t put the effort in to accomplish what they read. Just reading the book isn’t going to make you thinner, more prosperous, or smarter.

You have to take away what is essential for you and then put the effort in. This is the best way to enjoy the knowledge of a ‘How To’ book.
